Ahoy, thar, matey! It's Talk Like a Pirate Day at the Westland Library today, September 19. Talk like a pirate to yer librarian captain and get a bit o' pirate booty (candy or sticker)! Don't be a scallywag--wear a pirate name tag and put on a bit o' pirate apparel (pirate patch or jolly roger hat). All hands ahoy fer a swashbucklin' time, an' don't ferget to check out the best treasure of all--a good book! Thar's pirate tales a'plenty to be had here. Tally-ho, me hearty!
The Westland Public Library is pleased to welcome Leslie Helakoski, author of this year’s Michigan Reads! book selection Woolbur, on Tuesday, Oct. 8th at 11am. We invite all children and families to attend this special author visit, listen to the book, meet the author, and enjoy some refreshments. The program will begin promptly at 11am in Meeting Rooms A & B.
Following this visit, author Leslie Helakoski will visit P.D. Graham Elementary School in Westland to read “Woolbur” and do a group activity with the younger students.

Summer Reading fun continues in August with the Youth Non-Fiction Challenge. Children will read books at their own reading level from different subject areas. Each category completed will earn an entry for a chance to win cool prizes. Earn weekly coupons and other prizes along the way. Finishers can choose a free book to keep! The Non-Fiction Challenge runs from August 1 to August 30 and is for kids going into kindergarten on up. Pick up your challenge sheet at the Youth Services Desk today!
Summer Reading logs are due July 27th. Don't forget to turn in your reading logs on or before that date to claim your prizes!

From June 15th - July 27th, we are challenging you to read 600 minutes. That's only about 20 minutes a day! If you finish, you get a free book, a ticket to a magic show, and an entry into our grand prize drawing!
