Winter Reading Logs Due on Thursday, February 28

Just a reminder that Thursday, February 28 is the last day to turn in your Winter Reading log and claim your prizes!  Stop by the Youth Dept. Desk!

Winter Reading Program

It's cold outside, so let's warm up with a good book!  

If you haven't joined yet, our Winter Reading program is taking place through Thursday, February 28, 2019.  The kids can read or be "read to" for 600 minutes and earn prizes!  Stop by library for a reading log!

If you've already joined, remember that the last day to turn in your log is Thursday, February 28, 2019.

Holiday Sing-Along

Registration Required

Join us outside for songs and to see a live reindeer.  Then go inside for hot cocoa, cookies, crafts and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus.  Bring a camera to take pictures of your child with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Book Clubs for All Ages!

Check out our monthly youth book clubs!

Each month children will read and then meet to talk about a featured book, have a snack, and enjoy fun book-related activites!

Lord of the Gourd

Pat Harrison, AKA "Lord of the Gourd", will present a pumpkin sculpting program at the library.  Drop in anytime between 3:00PM - 7:00PM and watch him create Halloween masterpieces.  This is a "must see" program!  He has traveled Michigan for 20 years doing carving demonstrations.  

All ages welcome!

August Nonfiction Reading Challenge 2018

Summer Reading Fun continues in August with the Children’s Non-Fiction Challenge! 

Children will read books at their own reading level from different subject areas.

Earn coupons, treasure chest prizes, a chance to win the jar of treats, entry into the grand prize drawing, AND finishers can choose a free book to keep! 

The Non-Fiction Challenge runs from August 1 to August 31. Pick up your challenge sheet at the Youth Desk anytime in August!

Logs must be turned in by Friday, August 31 at 5:00pm.

Summer Reading ENDS SOON

Summer Reading is ending soon!

Saturday, July 28 is the last day to turn in reading logs for kids and teens. 


Children who participated in the Summer Reading Program are welcome to join us at our finale party on Monday, July 30 from 5:00-7:00pm at the H2O Spray Zone in Tattan Park: 1901 North Carlson St. Westland, MI 48185.

Teens who completed the Summer Reading Program are invited to a special after hours party on Friday, August 3 from 6:00-8:00pm at the library. A permission slip is REQUIRED to attend.

Meet Up and Eat Up This Summer!

Free, healthy meals are available to Michigan children over the summer break under the Michigan Department of Education’s Meet Up and Eat Up program. Meals are available for children 18 and younger.  At no cost to your family, these meals are full of healthy fruits and veggies to help fuel kids all summer long. See our Meet Up and Eat Up brochure for more information and a list of Westland locations providing free meals this summer.
