Volunteer at your library
Seeking Teen Volunteers for the Summer!

Will you be entering 9th grade or above in the fall? Do you like kids and reading? The Youth Services Department is currently seeking teen volunteers to help for our Summer Reading Program, "Libraries ROCK!"  Interested volunteers are asked to commit to two or more hours per week doing a variety of tasks.This is a great opportunity to earn service hours for your school or community organization while you have free time during the summer!

Applications are available in the library or online. Volunteer training dates are May 31, June 4 & 6. Please read the application for more information, choose a date to attend a training session, and return your completed application to the Youth Services Desk before that date.

Mother's Day Closing

The library will be closed on Sunday, May 13 in honor of Mother's Day. We will reopen Monday, May 14 at 9:00 am. We wish all moms a wonderful day and our thoughts go out to those whose mothers are no longer with them.

Friends of the Library Book Sale

Join us this weekend for a special book sale, "The Mother of All Sales" brought to you by the Friends of the Library. Grab some great deals on books, movies and music just in time for Mother's Day! On May 10 and May 11, prices will be set at 25¢ for all items (CDs, DVDs and audiobooks 25¢ per disc) and on May 12, get everything you can fit in a bag for $4.00.

Sale Schedule:

  • Thursday, May 10, 3-6pm: *Preview Sale*
  • Friday,     May 11, 10-4pm: Public Sale
  • Saturday, May 12, 10-4pm: $4 Bag Day Sale
  • No sale on Sunday - Happy Mother's Day!

*Preview Sales are for Friends of the Library only. Become a Friends member to receive special early access to all book sales. You can join at the door!

Senior Resources Day

Please join us on Saturday, May 5 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm as we welcome guest panelists dedicated to the health and welfare of our Senior community in Westland! Visit the booths, hear the presentations and ask questions. A raffle drawing will take place at the end of the program; you need not be present to win.

The panel will include representatives from Comfort Keepers, Binson Medical Supply, Blessed Dayz Adult Day Program, Parents Changing Spaces Referral Services, Home Care Connect Skilled Nursing, Veterans Helping Hands, American Therapy Centers, the Law Office of Erin E. Mortenson, Imperial Senior Suites, and St. Mary Mercy: Joint Replacement Camp.
