Volunteer Opportunities

Do you love the library?  We have just started a new volunteer program and there are many great ways to get involved.  We are currently looking for adults who are interested in helping us with computer training, Friday movie nights, literacy training, ESL conversation groups, shelf reading, shelf shifting and more.  Download a volunteer application today and turn it into the Reception desk.

Questions about Roth IRAs?

You hear people mentioning it all the time, but maybe you aren't really sure what a Roth IRA is all about.  Now is the time to get informed!

Andrew Gagne, Associate Financial Advisor with Ameriprise Financial will be at the library on Tuesday, October 26th at 7 pm to answer your questions and make sure you're aware of the potential tax benefits behind a Roth IRA conversion.

Coming in November: NaNoWriMo!

Get your pencils sharpened for some serious writing come November! The library is hosting a kick-off party and writing nights during National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo, for short) and everyone with an idea for a novel (you know you have one) is invited to participate. The NaNoWriMo organization offers great support during the process as you can communicate and work with writers going through the same process as you. If you're up to the challenge, sign up at the Reference Desk or show up at our kick-off at Biggby Coffee (Ford Rd., Westland) on 11/3 or at one of our Writing Nights at the library (11/9, 11/16, 11/23, 11/30).

Fantasy Football Winners: Month 1

The 1st month of the library Fantasy Football league just ended and we are giving away prizes for the top finishers in the Quarterback, Running Back, and Wide Receiver categories.

GoFireUpChips won the QB category due to an as expected stellar first month by Peyton Manning. I wish I could say it was close, but Philip Rivers was a distant second (sorry Condo of Spears).

srsbuziness used a waiver wire pick-up in Austin Collie to take the WR category for month 1. It just goes to show that there are worthwhile pick-ups out there every week of the season.

The Blitz took the RB category thanks in large part to a monumental 1st week by Arian Foster (and a game against the hapless Raiders).

Looking forward to month 2 already. We'll keep you posted.
