Food for Fines: 3rd week

Nearly 3 weeks in and Food for Fines is still going strong. To date, we have received over 1200 non-perishable, unexpired food items and have forgiven over $1,000 in fines. We have already reached our original goal (thanks for helping us obliterate that) and we're moving a lot closer to our second goal of 1,500 food items. Stop in anytime between now and the end of the day December 23rd to get your fines reduced (if you're late to the party, the equation you want to know is: one non-perishable, unexpired food item = $2 reduction in fines).

Join the Teen Advisory Board

Help the library by joining the Teen Advisory Board. If you're in middle school or high school and enjoy coming to the Westland Library, consider joining TAB. We meet the last Tuesday of each month at 7, and the next meeting is Jan. 25th. Have a say in YA by helping us plan programs, pick out books, and design book displays for the Teen Area.

If you're interested, stop in at the library and fill out a short registration form, or simply pick one up at the next meeting.

We'll feed you dinner at each meeting!

Food for Fines: week 2

We challenged you all to step up and help us in the fight against hunger and you have: to date we have received donations totaling over 500 food items and have forgiven over $400 in late fines- and we're only a week and a half in. At this rate, I think we can forget about our original goal of 1,000 food items and instead shoot for 1,500 donated food items. People in the community have quite generous in their giving as food items donated are outnumbering late fines (given the incentive, it could be the other way around). We're grateful for your support everyday.

Food for Fines update

We are on our way to 1,000 donated items: just in our first two days we collected over 100 items and forgave over $150 in fines. Help us reach our weekly goal of 250 donated items by stopping in today, Saturday or Sunday. We accept non-fine related donations as well as monetary donations (a $1 donation can serve 3 meals for someone in need). Happy Thanksgiving!
