Teen Knitting

Women’s Safety and Self Defense Seminar

6:30pm to 8:30pm, Meeting Rooms A and B

This seminar is presented by Darcy Leutzinger, police officer, self defense instructor, and co-founder of the Shotokan 911 Training System. Simple yet effective hands-on self defense techniques will be taught. Remember to wear comfortable clothes. This is an Everyone's Reading Program.

Anime/Manga Discussion Group

7:00pm to 9:00pm, 7-12th grade, Meeting Room B

Come discuss your favorite manga books and anime shows. We'll be reading Vampire Knight by Matsuri Hino. Cross Adademy is attended by two groups of students: the Day Class and the Night Class. At twilight, when the students of the Day Class return to their dorm, they cross paths with the Night Class on their way to school. Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryu are the Guardians of the school, protecting the Day Class from the Academy's dark secret: the Night Class is full of vampires!Yuki Cross has no memory of her past prior to the moment she was saved from a vampire attack ten years ago. She was adopted by the headmaster of Cross Academy, and now works alongside Zero to guard the Academy's secret. Yuki believes that vampires and humans can coexist peacefully, but her partner has different ideas.

Volume 1 will be available at the Reference desk prior to the meeting.

Fan Fiction Club

7:00pm to 8:00pm, Meeting Room C

Like to read fanfiction? Like to write it? Join us to discuss your favorite fanfiction sites, authors, and stories. You can even bring in your own fanfiction and receive feedback.

Fanfiction challenge: Write a short fanfiction (4-5 pages) that incorporates the following elements somewhere in the storyline: luck, a green shirt, a four-leaf clover, and Las Vegas. These things can be integral parts of the plot, or they can be mentioned briefly in dialogue- it’s up to you! Share your story at the meeting, and it could be voted BEST STORY. The BEST STORY uses the four requirements the most creatively.

Open Mic

7:00pm to 8:30pm, teens and adults, Meeting Rooms A and B

Open Mic continues rolling through the winter months with its mix of singers, singer-songwriters, poets, storytellers, and performers. All types of artists are welcome. Singer-songwriter John Latini emcees ( John's MySpace page ). Refreshments and snacks provided.

Action for Earth - Planting Event

11:00am to 12:00pm, Families w/ children in K-8, Bailey Recreation Center

Join the library and the Action for Earth program ( Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum , Project S.N.A.P. ) as we plant the seeds that will be grown at the new Westland Community Garden. All families welcome.

Followed at noon by a walk to the library celebrating environmental progress in the city. At the library, all children are encouraged to create art that reflects their environmental outlook as part of Action for Earth's Art Creation and Collection.

Action for Earth - Art Creation and Collection

1:00pm to 5:00pm, children, K- 8th grade, Meeting Rooms A and B

All children and families are encouraged to attend and make art reflecting their environmental outlook. Each piece of art will be archived by Project S.N.A.P. and included in a 4' X 6' mural to be donated to the library on Earth Day. Children will be able to go to Project S.N.A.P.'s website and locate their work and its place in our community mural. Everyone welcome. Refreshments served.

Preceded by the Seed Planting event at the Bailey Center from 11 a.m. to noon and the environmental walk to the library at noon.

Teen Book Club

7:00pm to 8:00pm, Meeting Room A

If you like to talk to others about what you've read, then you'll like Teen Book Club. We'll be discussing Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Clay Jenkins returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers 13 cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker—his classmate and crush—who committed suicide two weeks earlier.On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he’ll find out how he made the list.

Books will be available at the Reference desk prior to the meeting.
